We typically invest in the earliest round, in syndicate with other sophisticated investors.  We're comfortable leading in dollars and terms, or simply participating.  We view our role as stewards: help where and when asked to get our companies to the next round of growth capital, and otherwise stay out of the entrepreneurs' way.  While each investment is unique, we often help our company's with their business development, later stage capital raising, strategy, hiring, employee options, valuations, and M&A needs.
